I had the great opportunity to work on a game featuring the iconic Pokémon franchise. The main challenge was to ensure everything was visually cohesive with the Pokémon universe while creating a UI that appeals to a wide range of ages. My team and I focused on developing a UX flow that’s both streamlined and intuitive, aiming to boost player engagement and enjoyment.

UI Design

The UI design referenced the technologies existing in the Pokémon world (such as the Pokédex and the Pokémon Ball) to influence the style. We worked with the art team to create a unified layout and color scheme that would compliment a variety of environments as the game progressed.

UI Intensive

True to the Pokémon universe, there’s a plethora of things players can do in this game–collect Pokémon, evolve their Pokémon, earn badges, battle their way through different levels of gyms and raids, and arguably most importantly: socialize with other players. You can you this place to talk a little bit about the image on the side.

Because there’s so much to do this game was highly UI intensive, requiring thoughtful design strategies to ensure that players had all the information they needed in each screen in an organized and digestible manner.

Below is an example of a raid battle that multiple players can join together to defeat a powerful foe. The player is encouraged to watch ads in exchange for boosts to their battle.

Boss Raid Flow

  1. The Battle

One of the major hurdles in this project involved condensing a complex game design, overflowing with diverse features, into a user-friendly, web-based game accessible and enjoyable to players of all ages. In the Battle section of the game player actions and game effects may happen quickly, so the goal of the battle screen was to display information in a clear and digestible manner, as actions may happen in seconds.

  1. Social & Promotional Content

The Pokémon Company places immense importance on the representation of their characters, so I ensured that each image is meticulously positioned with attention to scale and coherence, while adhering to content specifications and dimensions. Whether it was for in-game pop-up screens, promotional materials, advertisements, or social media outreach aimed at enriching community experience, every image was crafted with purpose: to capture the spirit of the Pokémon universe.

  1. Storyboarding

My role was to visualize the concept and bring to life an engaging ad that not only promotes the game but also celebrates the rich lore and vibrant community of Pokémon. Through dynamic scenes, the storyboard aimed to spark excitement, nostalgia, and anticipation, inviting viewers into a world where they can embark on their own Pokémon adventures in the Pokémon Medallion Battle game.
